such as puffins, terns and eider ducks and visit the 14th century chapel and
working lighthouses. A short drive across a tidal causeway takes you to the
enchanting island of Lindisfarne (Holy Island), cradle of English Christian
history, with its historic 7th century Priory and fairytale Lutyens’ Castle.
Historic Attractions
Lose all sense of time in the beautiful Cheviot Hills and visit the sites of 500
years of border battles such as Flodden Field. Hadrian’s Wall, the northernmost
outpost of the Roman Empire and a World Heritage Site and the immense grandeur
of Kielder Water, England’s largest inland lake, lie within an hour. Visit the

ramparts around the border town of Berwick, and see the salmon being caught by
the local fishermen.
